I think I have a subconscious desire to constantly one-up myself in terms of setting my personal bar lower. Is that one-downing? I dunno.
Anyway, I didn't mention writing a minific in my journal this morning, but now we have to live with this. :B What can I say? All work and no good episodes makes PP a dull boy. (I haven't seen today's episode yet though, so shhhh.)
So today's episode, as I'm sure stories will be pointing out within hours, involved mind control. Unlike previous hints of this, though, some ponies displayed the appropriate outrage. Well, Rainbow Dash did... Pinkie Pie was angry at the wrong thing, typically.
I've normally got a hair-trigger being creeped out by mind-control, but somehow this episode worked for me. Been quite a while since I laughed so much at an episode.
Think it's that Starlight's a clever idiot that thought that would work, and that there was zero ill-intent in the whole mess, but that she still made amends for it. Good lesson there about cleaning up even the well intended messes you leave behind.
Man, I love Viva Las Pegasus. :D You've got heroes helping villains without reforming them, Gladmane's a total hoot, there's tons of amazing background ponies, and the new setting is a ride from start to finish. It's just everything I want out of post-S3 episodes. Observations:

After watching this weeks episode, I think Starlight is quickly becoming my favourite character in the show, surpassing Applejack and Twilight. I really should write her more stories containing her, though I think I'll wait until she's been flushed out more. I really loved everything about this episode, but I am a bit annoyed that "chillax" is part of the pony lexicon. Rainbow Dash... ugh.
Normally I don't do blogs. Heck, this is the first blog that I've ever written on this site. "So what's the occasion?" says the one person who might actually be reading this. Well, with season six quickly entering its final stretch I thought it was about time to talk about Starlight Glimmer. While I hardly think it's necessary at this point given the title, I'll go ahead and mark that this will contain spoilers for everything we've seen from season six so far, various other episodes throughout
Starlight: "Hmmm... Maybe I could use my magic to mind control ponies... And make them happy!"
Starlight is swatted over the head with a newspaper.
Starlight: "OW! What the-Shepherd?!"
Shepherd: "First off: Mind control is a no-no. That doesn't make things better, and you should know better."
Starlight: "I... So, wait. Twilight Sparkle isn't just using magic to make ponies like her?"
Earlier this season, "Newbie Dash" caused a lot of controversy for a number of reasons. I myself was disappointed by it, and yet, I have been completely unable to stop thinking about it since. I predict the same will be true of "Every Little Thing She Does," an interesting episode with a lot going on beneath the surface. It confirms Starlight Glimmer as an interesting character - but, unfortunately, it struggles with making her likeable, and despite a satisfying ending, has pacing issues
I've been re-watching Season 6 to prepare for and ease into Season 7, and I just finished watching “Every Little Thing She Does.” On the first watch, it rubbed me the wrong way even though parts of it made me laugh. I thought it made Starlight seem like a borderline sociopath. On the second viewing, that issue didn't seem as pronounced. True, Starlight acted purely out of selfishness, but she probably intended to lift the concoction of mind spells as soon as she got the all the activities “out

I spent this week on a residential course on Popular Science Writing, which has left me bubbling with enthusiasm for putting together my own book proposal. I cycled into town this morning to visit the science section of my local bookstore and get some reference material. While there, I also decided to stop off at my college just to see if I had any mail—only to find the entire street had been closed off and was swarming with security trying to hold back a dense crowd, holding their phones high
Bad news is my Sealed pool could’ve been better yesterday. (Five out of seven rares cast one mana. Two of which were Bomat Courier.) Good news is I was able to pull the episode off of YouTube before it got ContentID’d, which means I can do a quasi-live reaction.
Well, this was an interesting one. I'm glad the writers remembered Starlight is supposed to be one of the focal girls, now, at least. I feel like the episode was a bit late for the kind of conflict it had, but I feel there are some stuff worth noting. With that, unto my thoughts~
Starlight Glimmer: No. I'm Starlight.
Ember: Right. I'm sorry, but you can't blame me. You [and Twilight] both look and act so much alike.
Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer: What?!
Ember: I'm just saying you're both purple ponies with purple hair. You both have cutie marks with sparkly things.
Starlight Glimmer: [chuckles] Mine's more of a glimmer. Heh.
